Writing celebration

We celebrated the end of the personal narrative writing unit.  The children have made great progress and there final pieces are wonderful. We have been working on writing about just one moment or event.  The children learned about how to elaborate by adding feelings, describe actions, add dialogue and sound words. I am looking forward to sharing them with you at the parent conferences.  They are totally first grade!  We celebrated by sharing our stories with each outside in sunshine today.

The violin

Jeanne's mother takes the big prize.  She is our first parent to share a skill this year.  We first learned about the violin and then we listened to Vivaldi. After we listened the children shared different observations including her armed moved a lot, some notes were long and some short, her finger vibrated, the ending note was different and special, the sound changed from fast to slow, the music sounded like a scary forest!   It was an incredible, intimate experience. Thank you so much. As mentioned previously we are all experts to the young child.  So, we are all looking forward to the next brave parent to share a something. In addition, Jayden mentioned his mom played the cello, I'm just saying...

High School Science

We really enjoyed the visit to the High School science lab.  The science teacher, Janice Beatty showed an investigation and we also made some silly putty. The grade one children totally loved the experience and they asked some great questions.
