Our Portraits
First we teach the children how to sketch their portraits. We keep checking closely in the mirror to see that we are trying to draw what we really look like. Next we painted our portraits and finally we added outlines. I adore the children's portraits. You will see the finished ones at back-to-school night.
Math Time
During our math time this week we enjoyed creating our own number rack. The children use to number rack to explore the many different ways to decompose and compose numbers. During math time we have work places. At this time the children choose different work places to explore materials, do math activities and practice skills.

Readers Workshop
We start our Readers Workshop with a mini-lesson. At the moment we are learning how to care for our books, our library system, how to read independently and how share with a partner. During independent time the children get to choose where they sit around the classroom. This includes taking the cushions, lying on the floor, being on the sofa or under a table. The children choose a spot they will be comfortable to read and not get distracted. During this time I either teach children individually or have a small group of children for guided reading. Below are photographs of our first time choosing our place to read during independent reading time.
